Right on a desert plateau in the Sierra de Catorce range. Most people associate the pueblo mágico (magic people) of  Real de Catorce.
It has been reported that members of the Huicholes (Wixárika) tribe used that variety for their ceremony since centuries and real the catorce area is known for its pilgrimage site located in Sierra de Catorce.
Verified reports said that southern lophophora williamsii contains adequate amount of the called alkaloid Mescaline for ceremonial purpose.
